Homme de Fleurs // Contact

Homme de Fleurs is an alt-folk project by Canadian artist and producer Jason Zerbin. The latest release 'Contact' is a collaboration with artist Emmalee Madden. Written on an island in Canada's West Coast, the track carries an undercurrent of loneliness, familiar in a coming of age or a loss of spiritual certainty. The song embodied the elements of its inception and reflects them back to the listener: like a fire on the beach in the fall, there's a comfort about the moment, but still a chilly bareness.

With compositions spanning over ten years, Homme de Fleurs’ understated production wraps around lyrics and melody centred on themes of transition, loss, and love. The project houses several collaborations and a growing catalogue not easily held in other indie and alternative projects Zerbin is involved in.

Lyrics

I know I thought I’d prefer the woods

Over these silver streets

As fortnight defines effortlessly, cowardice inside of me

It must be stylish to want to be good

It must be stylish to want to be good

But when you’re cold to the bone

and I’m not talking bout a coat

Wandering far from home

When the words note enough to warm you up

Not like conversation

But I’m left only silence

Bitter coastline, white like fog

Timber heartland, connecting god

But I’m a ghost tied to a little house

Deep nostalgia, holding

Grace extending to the edge of my impact

The tone I’m sending

Reaching more than in contact

It must be stylish to want to be good

It must be stylish to want to be good

But when you’re cold to the bone

and I’m not talking bout a coat

Wandering far from home

When the words note enough to warm you up

Not like conversation

But I’m left only silence
